Verb + Preposition Combinations Lesson 1

Dialogue 2: Friends in Conflict & Reconciliation

Topic: Personal Misunderstanding and Resolution

Mark: I still can’t believe you blamed me for that mess at the presentation.
Liam: I know. I’m really sorry. I shouldn’t have accused you of stealing the idea. I just panicked and needed someone to point a finger at.
Mark: You didn’t even ask for my side of the story. I had nothing to do with the final design change.
Liam: I realize that now. I was wrong. I blamed you without thinking, and I apologize for that.
Mark: This isn’t the first time we’ve argued about work stuff, but I thought we agreed on always being upfront with each other.
Liam: You’re right. I admire you for always being honest with me. That’s something I should have done too.
Mark: So what made you react like that?
Liam: I guess I was trying to adapt to the new manager’s style, and I didn’t handle the pressure well. I thought blaming someone would protect me.
Mark: That’s not how we work, Liam. We build on trust and respect.
Liam: I know. I really messed up. I’ll make sure to talk to the team and assure them of what actually happened.
Mark: And maybe thank Jane for standing up for me during the meeting. She believed in me even when you didn’t.
Liam: Yeah, I already apologized to her. I also asked for feedback from the rest of the team. We need to arrive at a better way of handling these situations.
Mark: Agreed. Next time, let’s not break into arguments without facts.
Liam: Deal. Also — I bought you something. A coffee. A small peace offering.
Mark: (smiles) Thanks. I’ll take it, but I’m still borrowing your charger tonight.
Liam: Fair trade.
