Dialogue 3: Strange Noises at Night

Rachel: Did you hear that noise last night?

James: Yeah, around 2 a.m., right? I thought someone was trying to break into the building.

Rachel: Me too! I was lying in bed and almost got up to check. Then I heard something fall, like a chair or something.

James: I grabbed a flashlight and went downstairs. Turns out the wind had knocked over some stuff on the balcony.

Rachel: Wow. I was seriously considering calling the police. I thought it was suspicious—like someone was up to something.

James: Same here. I even peeked through the window, but no one had turned up by the time I got there.

Rachel: Still, it’s scary. I actually did lie down on the floor just in case something really happened. Felt a bit silly afterward.

James: Better safe than sorry. I wonder if we should install a security camera.

Rachel: Yeah, we could point out the idea to the landlord. Might help everyone feel safer.

James: True. And maybe we can ask the janitor to turn over any lost items he finds in the hallway too—just in case someone dropped something during the commotion.

Rachel: Good thinking. This building always has something going on.
