Phrasal verbs – series 5 – Unexpected Situations
  1. Pick up – To collect or lift something/someone.

    • Example: I need to pick up my friend from the airport.

  2. Check out – To examine or leave a place.

    • Example: Let’s check out that new restaurant downtown.

  3. Go through – To experience or examine something carefully.

    • Example: She went through a tough time after losing her job.

  4. Walk back – To take back a statement or action.

    • Example: The politician had to walk back his comments after public outrage.

  5. Put down – To place something on a surface or criticize someone.

    • Example: He put down the book and went to bed.

  6. Make out – To manage to see, hear, or understand something.

    • Example: I couldn’t make out what he was saying over the loud music.

  7. Work out – To solve a problem or exercise.

    • Example: We need to work out a plan before the deadline.

  8. Turn into – To become something different.

    • Example: Over the years, the small town turned into a big city.

  9. Show up – To arrive somewhere.

    • Example: He didn’t show up for the meeting yesterday.

  10. Pull off – To succeed in doing something difficult.

    • Example: He pulled off an amazing trick during the show.

  11. Get on – To board a vehicle or have a good relationship.

    • Example: We got on the bus just in time.

  12. Hang on – To wait or hold something tightly.

    • Example: Hang on a second, I’ll be right back.

  13. Catch up – To reach the same level as someone or update.

    • Example: I need to catch up on the latest news.

  14. Get down – To lower oneself or start enjoying something.

    • Example: The kids got down on the floor to play.

  15. Walk in – To enter a place unexpectedly.

    • Example: She walked in while we were having a serious discussion.
