Mastering Conjunctive Adverbs

Dialogue 1: At the University

Anna: I studied all night; nevertheless, I don’t feel ready for the exam.
David: I know how you feel. I studied too; however, I still get nervous.
Anna: In fact, the more I study, the more anxious I become.
David: That’s normal. Therefore, I try to take breaks to relax.
Anna: Good idea. Furthermore, breaks help you remember things better.
David: Exactly. Meanwhile, most students just keep studying non-stop.
Anna: True. On the other hand, some people do better under pressure.
David: Yes, but I prefer a balance. Accordingly, I’ll stop now and get some rest.
Anna: I wish I could. Instead, I’ll probably keep reading until midnight.
David: Don’t do that. Otherwise, you’ll be too tired to think clearly tomorrow.
Anna: You’re right. Actually, I’ve noticed that sleep improves memory.
David: Same here. In fact, I once failed a test because I studied all night and forgot everything.
Anna: Wow, that sounds terrible. Nevertheless, I guess you learned your lesson.
David: Yes, and consequently, I always try to manage my time better now.
Anna: That makes sense. Therefore, I’ll review just a little more and then go to bed.
David: Good plan. Besides, we’ve been preparing for weeks. We are ready.
Anna: You’re right. Moreover, stressing won’t change anything at this point.
David: Exactly. Thus, let’s both relax and do our best tomorrow.
